it rains alot here, but at least it's beautiful......
everything happening at once
camp continues to be amazing and incredibly time-consuming. I never have spare second to do anything. I run continually from 7 am to 10 pm every day. Its exhausting and wonderful at the same time. Saturday we had Rock Band night where all of the rock bands played and then we had a dance party. It was held in the PAC, which is a woodsy, rustic outdoor theater, but somehow they made it look...
mist on the mountains
it truly is heaven here. I have no concept of time, no worries and no thoughts that extend past the boundaries of camp. Days all run into one long afternoon and there’s an endless supply of great people and amazing experiences. I honestly haven’t felt this at home and this at ease in a very long time, if ever. It really is another universe up here at camp, completely removed from any...
225 children invade the camp...
I am officially in love with camp. Yesterday the campers arrived and it was unvbelievably hectic and overwhelming. At first they just trickled in but then the busses arrived and hundreds of screaming/hugging/crying/tackling children spilled out of three busses and right onto the teardrop. Pure insanity, I swear to you.
We spent most of the afternoon unpacking and settling in our campers, which is...
it's like a Richmond First Fridays, only better......
tonight was counselor talent night where everyone got up on stage and did something ridiculous/ridiculously amazing. well, not everyone, but quite a few people. Really, it’s a fantastic night because you get to see everyone show off their special skill so you can further understand why everyone is here. Doubtless, every single person is here because they are incredibly talented.
Several...
my life is a flying circus.
part of my job involves having access to a trapeze. can I complain? not really.
Kelly Circus! Head of the department.
waiting for their turn…
Tayo, one of the main trapeze guys (shortly after this shot he took a leap and did a double sommersault in midair. I wasn’t fast enough to catch it…):
talk about running away to join the circus…
be here now.
it’s been non-stop work around here, mainly trying to get our studios ready for the kids to come. I’ve been working in my studio, which is lovely considering I have an entire building to myself and don’t have to share space with the rest of the FAB.
Good thing I’m a scavenger because I’ve managed to get a few very important things that would have otherwise been...
numb toes.
the weather report here is COLD AND WET.
Which will probably be the norm up here in the Adirondaks, but DAMN. I’ve been wrapped up all day sitting in cold outdoor theaters getting “training” from the head guy Geoff, who is an absolute riot. It is real training, but as Fiona, the head office person said: “It sounds like a comedy club in here!” because we’re...
disassembling train tracks
Camp continues on. Since all of the other counselors are here we’ve all been separated down into our departments to do work on the studios. The FAB is what we’re tackling, even though I technically don’t work in there. The owner, Marc, has a thing about toy trains and had a huge train track set up in one half of the upper part of the FAB. Needless to say, it’s taking up...
foreign land, foreign accents
even though I’m just in upstate New York, I am certainly in a foreign world. Camp is already amazing, that much I can say. Everyone is super friendly and accepting. I was so worried I would get really shy and not make any friends, but as soon as I realized that everyone else was just as scared as I was, I bucked up and started introducing myself.
I already have a group of girlfriends, the...
somewhere i have never travelled, gladly beyond any experience, your eyes have their silence: in your most frail gesture are things which enclose me, or which i cannot touch because they are too near your slightest look easily will unclose me though i have closed myself as fingers, you open always petal by petal myself as Spring opens (touching skilfully, mysteriously)her first rose or if your...
I'm nobody!
Who are you? Are you nobody, too? Then there’s a pair of us—don’t tell! They’d banish us, you know.
How dreary to be somebody! How public, like a frog To tell your name the livelong day To an admiring bog!
So quite obviously I’m currently in Amherst, Massachussetts, the home of Emily Dickinson (hence, the poem). We’ve been traveling for a few days now,...
and the adventure continues...
off I go! What’s new, really? Now I’m going to embark on a trip up the east coast, visiting RISD and Yale along the way and landing at Long Lake Summer Camp. I’ve been scared about camp, but now I’m excited about it! I really hope everything goes well.
Now it’s time to pack into the car with the parents and two dogs. This will certainly be an awfully big...
I can't sleep
after a late night with the Biddles at the movies I still can’t sleep, so I’m posting pictures of the wedding dress I just finished for my friend Aniscia. She was an absolute dream to work with and our tastes matched perfectly. I’m incredibly proud of how perfectly this dress fits her, both physically and personality-wise. Think I’m ready to open my couture wedding dress...
last day on the ranch...
it’s the last day here before I jet off to the northeast for more schools and then camp. I ended up spending the whole day with Amy and Ant, which was great. I needed some bff time before I leave again.
I also FINALLY finished the hats for my WOW entry. You know the tap-lights that can turn on and off when you tap the top of them? Well I put mini ones in these hats so they glow.
Anyways, I...
it's all about the climb
the prospect of picking up and leaving home again is not something that I want to entertain. Unfortunately, I have packed every moment of my life full of activity. I would much rather stay at home all summer and be with Amy, lazing in the mountains and being carefree again. Alas, that is never how my life works.
Two days from now I put my bags back in the car and venture north to see some grad...
at the end of the trail...
it is so late, and all I’m saying right now is that I am home and it is wonderous to be here. Tarrington is climbing next to me and I am very very sleepy. Amy and I got back into town around nine and went to her house where we hung out with Sally and David and Ant for a few hours. Then I went back to town to see Anne for a bit since I haven’t seen her in eons. It was really fantastic...
once again here I sit in a foreign place. This time, it’s a public library somewhere in Indiana near Dunes State Park, where Amy and I are staying. It’s been an exciting few days, full of… well, Amy’s and my particular brand of sillyness.
The first night at the campsite was intense. I was woken at four in the mroning to a veritable light show brought on by rolling roars of...
